Shaping Rocking Chair Pieces

Shaping of the rocking chair pieces is accomplished with the use of power and hand tools.

The creation of lumber from the logs is usually done in the forest using a portable lumber mill. This is an attachment that connects to a chain saw which allows for more uniform boards as compared to cutting freehand.

Turning the rough cut lumber into useable lumber an electric planner is used to smooth up the rough surface.

Now the dimensional lumber is cut into fundamental rocking chair pieces using an electric table saw or an electric band saw. At this point some pieces are bent and formed into the required curves.

Now that the pieces are fundamentally complete, further shaping is accomplished using old-time methods and tools. This method helps to add the character found in Rory's work.
